Married to Chris Ball, Rancher 38 years

I am and older teacher with a new education. I believe that this makes me more prepared for the job of dealing with children. I have raised three children; all have completed master’s level degrees. I graduated between my two oldest children. It certainly made them realize the importance of finishing college at a young age.

I love to work and love to teach. It has surprised me that the students respond so well to me, but, I have a great rapport with students. Student-teaching at Stephenville High School was the inspiration for me to take a local teaching job. The students encouraged me to teach and so did my supervising teacher. It was a wonderful experience where I learned not only to educate, but, to make it fun.

I am active in many art organizations and have even created an entire outdoor art museum in my town. Working on the project, I involved 144 people from Eastland in art projects. I like to include civic art projects in my class and try to inspire the love of art in all of my students. I have also presented at 3 state and a national art convention. I have a proposal submitted for the fall for the Texas Art Education Association convention in San Antonio. Currently presentations on sketching have been requested and I have taught “Sketchbooks” in several different Texas towns, and Sedan, Kansas. Last year I was Commissioner of the Arts for Sedan and we remodeled an old lumber yard into a Fine Arts Center for children.

I believe that art and creativity are the core of human pleasure and enjoyment. I strive to instill a life-long love of the arts in my students. It is especially important in the climate of today, where art may be eliminated from schools, that we teach art with careful instruction. If we do not make art important, there may not be art in the future. I believe that we all have a creative style and as an art teacher, my job is to help students develop their taste and ability. I am committed to educating each child to their full potential. This semester my first two art educators will graduate and two more with art degrees from classes I taught in high school. The last semester I taught high school, we had 17 are majors from 54 graduates.

It is my future plan to complete my doctorate in Online Instruction.
